Generating music from images can enhance various applications, includingbackground music for photo slideshows, social media experiences, and videocreation. This paper presents an emotion-guided image-to-music generationframework that leverages the Valence-Arousal (VA) emotional space to producemusic that aligns with the emotional tone of a given image. Unlike previousmodels that rely on contrastive learning for emotional consistency, theproposed approach directly integrates a VA loss function to enable accurateemotional alignment. The model employs a CNN-Transformer architecture, featuring pre-trained CNN image feature extractors and three Transformerencoders to capture complex, high-level emotional features from MIDI music.Three Transformer decoders refine these features to generate musically andemotionally consistent MIDI sequences. Experimental results on a newly curatedemotionally paired image-MIDI dataset demonstrate the proposed model's superiorperformance across metrics such as Polyphony Rate, Pitch Entropy, GrooveConsistency, and loss convergence.

Autoregressive (AR) Transformer-based sequence models are known to havedifficulty generalizing to sequences longer than those seen during training. When applied to text-to-speech (TTS), these models tend to drop or repeat wordsor produce erratic output, especially for longer utterances. In this paper, weintroduce enhancements aimed at AR Transformer-based encoder-decoder TTSsystems that address these robustness and length generalization issues. Ourapproach uses an alignment mechanism to provide cross-attention operations withrelative location information. The associated alignment position is learned asa latent property of the model via backprop and requires no external alignmentinformation during training. While the approach is tailored to the monotonicnature of TTS input-output alignment, it is still able to benefit from theflexible modeling power of interleaved multi-head self- and cross-attentionoperations. A system incorporating these improvements, which we call VeryAttentive Tacotron, matches the naturalness and expressiveness of a baselineT5-based TTS system, while eliminating problems with repeated or dropped wordsand enabling generalization to any practical utterance length.

State-of-the-art (SOTA) semi-supervised learning techniques, such as FixMatchand it's variants, have demonstrated impressive performance in classificationtasks. However, these methods are not directly applicable to regression tasks. In this paper, we present RankUp, a simple yet effective approach that adaptsexisting semi-supervised classification techniques to enhance the performanceof regression tasks. RankUp achieves this by converting the original regressiontask into a ranking problem and training it concurrently with the originalregression objective. This auxiliary ranking classifier outputs aclassification result, thus enabling integration with existing semi-supervisedclassification methods. Moreover, we introduce regression distributionalignment (RDA), a complementary technique that further enhances RankUp'sperformance by refining pseudo-labels through distribution alignment. Despiteits simplicity, RankUp, with or without RDA, achieves SOTA results in across arange of regression benchmarks, including computer vision, audio, and naturallanguage processing tasks.
Speech enhancement is crucial in human-computer interaction, especially forubiquitous devices. Ultrasound-based speech enhancement has emerged as anattractive choice because of its superior ubiquity and performance. However, inevitable interference from unexpected and unintended sources duringaudio-ultrasound data acquisition makes existing solutions rely heavily onhuman effort for data collection and processing. This leads to significant datascarcity that limits the full potential of ultrasound-based speech enhancement. To address this, we propose USpeech, a cross-modal ultrasound synthesisframework for speech enhancement with minimal human effort. At its core is atwo-stage framework that establishes correspondence between visual andultrasonic modalities by leveraging audible audio as a bridge. This approachovercomes challenges from the lack of paired video-ultrasound datasets and theinherent heterogeneity between video and ultrasound data. Our frameworkincorporates contrastive video-audio pre-training to project modalities into ashared semantic space and employs an audio-ultrasound encoder-decoder forultrasound synthesis. We then present a speech enhancement network thatenhances speech in the time-frequency domain and recovers the clean speechwaveform via a neural vocoder. Comprehensive experiments show USpeech achievesremarkable performance using synthetic ultrasound data comparable to physicaldata, significantly outperforming state-of-the-art ultrasound-based speechenhancement baselines.
Translating lyrics for musicals presents unique challenges due to the need toensure high translation quality while adhering to singability requirements suchas length and rhyme. Existing song translation approaches often prioritizethese singability constraints at the expense of translation quality, which iscrucial for musicals. This paper aims to enhance translation quality whilemaintaining key singability features. Our method consists of three maincomponents. First, we create a dataset to train reward models for the automaticevaluation of translation quality. Second, to enhance both singability andtranslation quality, we implement a two-stage training process with filteringtechniques. Finally, we introduce an inference-time optimization framework fortranslating entire songs. Extensive experiments, including both automatic andhuman evaluations, demonstrate significant improvements over baseline methodsand validate the effectiveness of each component in our approach.

Chord progressions encapsulate important information about music, pertainingto its structure and conveyed emotions. They serve as the backbone of musicalcomposition, and in many cases, they are the sole information required for amusician to play along and follow the music. Despite their importance, chordprogressions as a data domain remain underexplored. There is a lack oflarge-scale datasets suitable for deep learning applications, and limitedresearch exploring chord progressions as an input modality. In this work, wepresent Chordonomicon, a dataset of over 666,000 songs and their chordprogressions, annotated with structural parts, genre, and release date -created by scraping various sources of user-generated progressions andassociated metadata. We demonstrate the practical utility of the Chordonomicondataset for classification and generation tasks, and discuss its potential toprovide valuable insights to the research community. Chord progressions areunique in their ability to be represented in multiple formats (e.g. text, graph) and the wealth of information chords convey in given contexts, such astheir harmonic function . These characteristics make the Chordonomicon an idealtestbed for exploring advanced machine learning techniques, includingtransformers, graph machine learning, and hybrid systems that combine knowledgerepresentation and machine learning.

【7】 Semi-Supervised Self-Learning Enhanced Music Emotion Recognition

Yifu Sun,  Xulong Zhang,  Monan Zhou,  Wei Li
Music emotion recognition (MER) aims to identify the emotions conveyed in agiven musical piece. But currently in the field of MER, the available publicdatasets have limited sample sizes. Recently, segment-based methods foremotion-related tasks have been proposed, which train backbone networks onshorter segments instead of entire audio clips, thereby naturally augmentingtraining samples without requiring additional resources. Then, the predictedsegment-level results are aggregated to obtain the entire song prediction. Themost commonly used method is that segment inherits the label of the clipcontaining it, but music emotion is not constant during the whole clip. Doingso will introduce label noise and make the training overfit easily. To handlethe noisy label issue, we propose a semi-supervised self-learning (SSSL)method, which can differentiate between samples with correct and incorrectlabels in a self-learning manner, thus effectively utilizing the augmentedsegment-level data. Experiments on three public emotional datasets demonstratethat the proposed method can achieve better or comparable performance.

【8】 Application of Audio Fingerprinting Techniques for Real-Time Scalable  Speech Retrieval and Speech Clusterization

作者:Kemal Altwlkany,  Sead Delalić,  Adis Alihodžić,  Elmedin Selmanović,  Damir Hasić
Audio fingerprinting techniques have seen great advances in recent years, enabling accurate and fast audio retrieval even in conditions when the queriedaudio sample has been highly deteriorated or recorded in noisy conditions.Expectedly, most of the existing work is centered around music, with popularmusic identification services such as Apple's Shazam or Google's Now Playingdesigned for individual audio recognition on mobile devices. However, thespectral content of speech differs from that of music, necessitatingmodifications to current audio fingerprinting approaches. This paper offersfresh insights into adapting existing techniques to address the specializedchallenge of speech retrieval in telecommunications and cloud communicationsplatforms. The focus is on achieving rapid and accurate audio retrieval inbatch processing instead of facilitating single requests, typically on acentralized server. Moreover, the paper demonstrates how this approach can beutilized to support audio clustering based on speech transcripts withoutundergoing actual speech-to-text conversion. This optimization enablessignificantly faster processing without the need for GPU computing, arequirement for real-time operation that is typically associated withstate-of-the-art speech-to-text tools.

【9】 RDSinger: Reference-based Diffusion Network for Singing Voice Synthesis

Kehan Sui,  Jinxu Xiang,  Fang Jin
摘要:Singing voice synthesis (SVS) aims to produce high-fidelity singing audiofrom music scores, requiring a detailed understanding of notes, pitch, andduration, unlike text-to-speech tasks. Although diffusion models have shownexceptional performance in various generative tasks like image and videocreation, their application in SVS is hindered by time complexity and thechallenge of capturing acoustic features, particularly during pitchtransitions. Some networks learn from the prior distribution and use thecompressed latent state as a better start in the diffusion model, but thedenoising step doesn't consistently improve quality over the entire duration. We introduce RDSinger, a reference-based denoising diffusion network thatgenerates high-quality audio for SVS tasks. Our approach is inspired by AnimateAnyone, a diffusion image network that maintains intricate appearance featuresfrom reference images. RDSinger utilizes FastSpeech2 mel-spectrogram as areference to mitigate denoising step artifacts. Additionally, existing modelscould be influenced by misleading information on the compressed latent stateduring pitch transitions. We address this issue by applying Gaussian blur onpartial reference mel-spectrogram and adjusting loss weights in these regions.Extensive ablation studies demonstrate the efficiency of our method.Evaluations on OpenCpop, a Chinese singing dataset, show that RDSingeroutperforms current state-of-the-art SVS methods in performance.

Modern day audio signal classification techniques lack the ability toclassify low feature audio signals in the form of spectrographic temporalfrequency data representations. Additionally, currently utilized techniquesrely on full diverse data sets that are often not representative of real-worlddistributions. This paper derives several first-of-its-kind machine learningmethodologies to analyze these low feature audio spectrograms given datadistributions that may have normalized, skewed, or even limited training sets.In particular, this paper proposes several novel customized convolutionalarchitectures to extract identifying features using binary, one-class, andsiamese approaches to identify the spectrographic signature of a given audiosignal. Utilizing these novel convolutional architectures as well as theproposed classification methods, these experiments demonstrate state-of-the-artclassification accuracy and improved efficiency than traditional audioclassification methods.

【11】 A Novel Score-CAM based Denoiser for Spectrographic Signature Extraction  without Ground Truth

Noel Elias

Sonar based audio classification techniques are a growing area of research inthe field of underwater acoustics. Usually, underwater noise picked up bypassive sonar transducers contains all types of signals that travel through theocean and is transformed into spectrographic images. As a result, thecorresponding spectrograms intended to display the temporal-frequency data of acertain object often include the tonal regions of abundant extraneous noisethat can effectively interfere with a 'contact'. So, a majority ofspectrographic samples extracted from underwater audio signals are renderedunusable due to their clutter and lack the required indistinguishabilitybetween different objects. With limited clean true data for supervisedtraining, creating classification models for these audio signals is severelybottlenecked. This paper derives several new techniques to combat this problem bydeveloping a novel Score-CAM based denoiser to extract an object's signaturefrom noisy spectrographic data without being given any ground truth data. Inparticular, this paper proposes a novel generative adversarial networkarchitecture for learning and producing spectrographic training data in similardistributions to low-feature spectrogram inputs. In addition, this paper also ageneralizable class activation mapping based denoiser for differentdistributions of acoustic data, even real-world data distributions. Utilizingthese novel architectures and proposed denoising techniques, these experimentsdemonstrate state-of-the-art noise reduction accuracy and improvedclassification accuracy than current audio classification standards. As such, this approach has applications not only to audio data but for countless datadistributions used all around the world for machine learning.

样品可以在我们的网页pages.cs.huji.ac.il/adiyoss-lab/LoTHM上找到。
This study introduces a refined approach to Text-to-Speech (TTS) generationthat significantly enhances sampling stability across languages, with aparticular focus on Hebrew. By leveraging discrete semantic units with higherphonetic correlation obtained from a self-supervised model, our methodaddresses the inherent instability often encountered in TTS systems, especiallythose dealing with non-diacriticized scripts like Hebrew. Utilizing HuBERTcodes, our model generates discrete representations that are optimized for TTStasks, thereby reducing the dependency on diacritic-based text processing. Thisadvancement not only simplifies the language modeling process but also improvesthe robustness and shows controllability of the speech output due todisentenglement properties of the semantic units. The inclusion of a speakerembedding in the vocoder further aids in capturing the unique vocalcharacteristics of the speaker, contributing to the naturalness of thesynthesized speech. Our experimental results demonstrate that this approach notonly maintains high performance in Hebrew but also shows adaptability toEnglish, underscoring its effectiveness in enhancing stability in TTS systemsuniversally. Our method, named LOTHM (Language of The Hebrew Man), outperformsexisting methods in terms of stability while achieving naturalness and speakersimilarity on par with previous methods, making it a compelling choice forfuture speech synthesis applications.
In hip-hop music, rappers and producers play important, but rather differentroles. However, both contribute to the overall sound, as rappers bring in theirvoice, while producers are responsible for the music composition and mix. Inthis case report, we trained Self-Organizing Maps (SOMs) with songs produced byDr. Dre, Rick Rubin and Timbaland using the goniometer and Mel FrequencyCepstral Coefficients (MFCCs). With these maps, we investigate whether hip hopproducers have a unique sound profile. Then, we test whether collaborationswith the rappers Eminem, Jay-Z, LL Cool J and Nas stick to, or break out ofthis sound profile. As these rappers are also producers of some songs, weinvestigate how much their sound profile is influenced by the producers whointroduced them to beat making. The results speak a clear language: producershave their own sound profile that is unique concerning the goniometer, and lessdistinct concerning MFCCs. They dominate the sound of hip hop music overrappers, who emulate the sound profile of the producers who introduced them tobeat making.

作者:Ryoya Ogura,  Tomoya Nishida,  Yohei Kawaguchi
This paper proposes a method for unsupervised anomalous sound detection(UASD) and captioning the reason for detection. While there is a method thatcaptions the difference between given normal and anomalous sound pairs, it isassumed to be trained and used separately from the UASD model. Therefore, theobtained caption can be irrelevant to the differences that the UASD modelcaptured. In addition, it requires many caption labels representing differencesbetween anomalous and normal sounds for model training. The proposed methodemploys a retrieval-augmented approach for captioning of anomalous sounds.Difference captioning in the embedding space output by the pre-trained CLAP(contrastive language-audio pre-training) model makes the anomalous sounddetection results consistent with the captions and does not require training.Experiments based on subjective evaluation and a sample-wise analysis of theoutput captions demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper proposes a framework of explaining anomalous machine sounds in thecontext of anomalous sound detection~(ASD). While ASD has been extensivelyexplored, identifying how anomalous sounds differ from normal sounds is alsobeneficial for machine condition monitoring. However, existing sound differencecaptioning methods require anomalous sounds for training, which is impracticalin typical machine condition monitoring settings where such sounds areunavailable. To solve this issue, we propose a new strategy for explaininganomalous differences that does not require anomalous sounds for training.Specifically, we introduce a framework that explains differences in predefinedtimbre attributes instead of using free-form text captions. Objective metricsof timbre attributes can be computed using timbral models developed throughpsycho-acoustical research, enabling the estimation of how and what timbreattributes have changed from normal sounds without training machine learningmodels. Additionally, to accurately determine timbre differences regardless ofvariations in normal training data, we developed a method that jointly conductsanomalous sound detection and timbre difference estimation based on a k-nearestneighbors method in an audio embedding space. Evaluation using the MIMII DGdataset demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The detection of anomalous sounds in machinery operation presents asignificant challenge due to the difficulty in generalizing anomalous acousticpatterns. This task is typically approached as an unsupervised learning ornovelty detection problem, given the complexities associated with theacquisition of comprehensive anomalous acoustic data. Conventionalmethodologies for training anomalous sound detection systems primarily employauto-encoder architectures or representational learning with auxiliary tasks. However, both approaches have inherent limitations. Auto-encoder structures areconstrained to utilizing only the target machine's operational sounds, whiletraining with auxiliary tasks, although capable of incorporating diverseacoustic inputs, may yield representations that lack correlation with thecharacteristic acoustic signatures of anomalous conditions. We propose atraining method based on the source separation model (CMGAN) that aims toisolate non-target machine sounds from a mixture of target and non-target classacoustic signals. This approach enables the effective utilization of diversemachine sounds and facilitates the training of complex neural networkarchitectures with limited sample sizes. Our experimental results demonstratethat the proposed method yields better performance compared to bothconventional auto-encoder training approaches and source separation techniquesthat focus on isolating target machine signals. Moreover, our experimentalresults demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits the potential forenhanced representation learning as the quantity of non-target data increases, even while maintaining a constant volume of target class data.

This report describes our systems submitted for the DCASE2024 Task 3challenge: Audio and Audiovisual Sound Event Localization and Detection withSource Distance Estimation (Track B). Our main model is based on theaudio-visual (AV) Conformer, which processes video and audio embeddingsextracted with ResNet50 and with an audio encoder pre-trained on SELD,respectively. This model outperformed the audio-visual baseline of thedevelopment set of the STARSS23 dataset by a wide margin, halving its DOAE andimproving the F1 by more than 3x. Our second system performs a temporalensemble from the outputs of the AV-Conformer. We then extended the model withfeatures for distance estimation, such as direct and reverberant signalcomponents extracted from the omnidirectional audio channel, and depth mapsextracted from the video frames. While the new system improved the RDE of ourprevious model by about 3 percentage points, it achieved a lower F1 score. Thismay be caused by sound classes that rarely appear in the training set and thatthe more complex system does not detect, as analysis can determine. To overcomethis problem, our fourth and final system consists of an ensemble strategycombining the predictions of the other three. Many opportunities to refine thesystem and training strategy can be tested in future ablation experiments, andlikely achieve incremental performance gains for this audio-visual task.

We propose an approach for simultaneous diarization and separation of meetingdata. It consists of a complex Angular Central Gaussian Mixture Model (cACGMM)for speech source separation, and a von-Mises-Fisher Mixture Model (VMFMM) fordiarization in a joint statistical framework. Through the integration, bothspatial and spectral information are exploited for diarization and separation. We also develop a method for counting the number of active speakers in asegment of a meeting to support block-wise processing. While the total numberof speakers in a meeting may be known, it is usually not known on a per-segmentlevel. With the proposed speaker counting, joint diarization and sourceseparation can be done segment-by-segment, and the permutation problem acrosssegments is solved, thus allowing for block-online processing in the future.Experimental results on the LibriCSS meeting corpus show that the integratedapproach outperforms a cascaded approach of diarization and speech enhancementin terms of WER, both on a per-segment and on a per-meeting level.

作者:Kehan Sui,  Jinxu Xiang,  Fang Jin

【17】 A Novel Score-CAM based Denoiser for Spectrographic Signature Extraction  without Ground Truth
